The five levels
Each anchor describes what separates one level from the next — not a general description of quality. This is the text the evaluator itself reads.
-
Level 1 Below Standard
No communication, performance closed unto itself
Example Musician plays for himself without any orientation toward listener

Communication attempts but incomplete
Example Some moments directed toward listener between closed ones
-
Level 3 At Standard

Example Listener senses music speaking to them
-
Level 4 Above Standard
Deep communication evoking genuine emotional response
Example Listener feels music expresses them too
-
Level 5 Exemplary
Communication that changes something in the listener
Example Listener leaves with something they didn't have at the start
