The Dramatic Pause

What: A measured silence before or after a key line to charge it with meaning.

Why: Silence builds tension and gives the listener a moment to feel; sometimes it says more than speech.

How: Find the most important word in the text and pause before it to spotlight it, or after it to leave its mark.

Common mistake: A flowing delivery with no pauses, so the key meaning drowns in the stream.

Exercise: Read a sentence twice: once without a pause, once with a pause before its key word, and compare the effect.
