Finishing: The Last 5%

What: Lavishing care on a work's finish: surface, edges, and final details.

Why: The last five percent separates the amateur from the maker; the eye settles on a flaw, not on the mastery.

How: Set aside dedicated finishing time: polishing, smoothing, cleaning edges, and inspecting in side light that reveals flaws.

Common mistake: Rushing the end after pouring effort into the structure.

Exercise: Take a near-finished piece and spend 15 minutes on finishing alone, and compare before/after.
