Quality of product's final appearance and concealing manufacturing flaws

The five levels

Each anchor describes what separates one level from the next — not a general description of quality. This is the text the evaluator itself reads.

  • Level 1 Below Standard

    Poor finish revealing manufacturing flaws

    Example Visible threads, rough edges, messy gluing

  • Level 2 Approaching

    Partial finish with visible flaws

    Example Some edges clean, others not

  • Level 3 At Standard

    Good finish giving product professional appearance

    Example Product appears finished and respects buyer

  • Level 4 Above Standard

    Finish adding beauty and highlighting craftsmanship

    Example Finishing method itself is aesthetic

  • Level 5 Exemplary

    Exceptional finish becoming part of product's beauty

    Example Closing or finishing method inseparable part of design
