Joinery Integrity

Quality of joining the product's parts and concealing or intentionally revealing joints

The five levels

Each anchor describes what separates one level from the next — not a general description of quality. This is the text the evaluator itself reads.

  • Level 1 Below Standard

Weak or unsightly joints that ruin the product

Example Visible glue or gaps between parts

  • Level 2 Approaching

Sturdy joints but unclean in appearance

Example The joining is strong but its traces show

  • Level 3 At Standard

Sturdy, clean joints serving the product

Example The parts connect tightly and cleanly

  • Level 4 Above Standard

Joints turned into an intentional aesthetic element

Example An exposed joint designed to be seen and admired

  • Level 5 Exemplary

Exceptional joints attesting to a rare mastery of craft

Example A joint with no nails or glue that astonishes craftspeople
