Proportional Balance

Proportion of the product's parts and sizes to create a balanced, beautiful form

The five levels

Each anchor describes what separates one level from the next — not a general description of quality. This is the text the evaluator itself reads.

  • Level 1 Below Standard

Off proportions making the product look odd

Example A huge handle on a small body

  • Level 2 Approaching

Acceptable proportions with one part upsetting the balance

Example The form is good but its base is larger than needed

  • Level 3 At Standard

Balanced proportions making the product easy on the eye

Example The product's parts proportionate and harmonious

  • Level 4 Above Standard

Deliberate proportions giving the product a noticeable elegance

Example A proportion making the product look finer than its price

  • Level 5 Exemplary

Exceptional proportions making each part feel like the only right one

Example It's hard to imagine any part at a different size
