Cultural Authenticity

Drawing on a craft heritage or local identity authentically without appropriation or kitsch

The five levels

Each anchor describes what separates one level from the next — not a general description of quality. This is the text the evaluator itself reads.

  • Level 1 Below Standard

A shallow or kitschy imitation of heritage

Example A heritage motif slapped on without understanding

  • Level 2 Approaching

Correct inspiration but literal in transfer

Example An exact copy of heritage with nothing of the maker added

  • Level 3 At Standard

Authentic use of heritage that respects its meaning

Example A heritage element used with understanding and context

  • Level 4 Above Standard

A living dialogue between heritage and modernity that renews the craft

Example A design carrying the spirit of tradition in today's language

  • Level 5 Exemplary

Exceptional authenticity adding a new chapter to a living craft tradition

Example Your product becomes a proud extension of the heritage
