Glaze Uniformity

Applying glaze uniformly without clumping, bare patches, or running.

The five levels

Each anchor describes what separates one level from the next — not a general description of quality. This is the text the evaluator itself reads.

  • Level 1 Below Standard

Clumped glaze and bare patches marring the surface.

Example Clumping at the base and bareness at the rim.

  • Level 2 Approaching

Acceptable coverage with slight thickness variation.

Example Slightly uneven sheen across the surface.

  • Level 3 At Standard

A uniform glaze covering the surface evenly.

Example A consistent sheen without defects.

  • Level 4 Above Standard

A refined glaze serving the form and revealing its texture.

Example A glaze that highlights the form’s curve.

  • Level 5 Excellence

A masterful uniform glaze turning the surface into an aesthetic element in itself.

Example A glassy surface that looks carved from light.
