Saddle-Stitch Straightness

Straight, regular hand saddle-stitching with even hole spacing and angle.

The five levels

Each anchor describes what separates one level from the next — not a general description of quality. This is the text the evaluator itself reads.

  • Level 1 Below Standard

Crooked stitching with unevenly spaced holes.

Example A stitch row that slants and spaces randomly.

  • Level 2 Approaching

Mostly straight stitching with stray stitches.

    Example A slight slant mid-row.

  • Level 3 At Standard

Straight stitching with regular holes and angle.

Example A clean, straight stitch row.

  • Level 4 Above Standard

Refined stitching with consistent angle on both faces.

Example Slanted stitches matched front and back.

  • Level 5 Excellence

Masterful saddle-stitching, matched on both faces, looking machine-made.

Example A stitch row hardly believable as handmade.
