Solder Joint Cleanliness
Clean, tight solder joints without gaps, excess, or burns.
The five levels
Each anchor describes what separates one level from the next — not a general description of quality. This is the text the evaluator itself reads.
-
Level 1 Below Standard
Solder with gaps or rough excess that weakens and mars the joint.
Example A blob of solder bulging at the joint.
-
Level 2 Approaching
A solder that holds but with rough marks.
Example A tight joint needing cleanup.
-
Level 3 At Standard
A clean, tight solder nearly invisible after cleanup.
Example A smooth joint without excess.
-
Level 4 Above Standard
An invisible, strong solder blending with the metal.
Example A joint indistinguishable from the adjacent metal.
-
Level 5 Excellence
A masterful invisible solder making the piece look cast as one.
Example Jewellery that looks like a single metal piece.
