Geometric Grid Precision

Precision of the Islamic ornament grid and the symmetry and closure of its repeat.

The five levels

Each anchor describes what separates one level from the next — not a general description of quality. This is the text the evaluator itself reads.

  • Level 1 Below Standard

A skewed grid whose repeat does not close.

Example A star with unequal points.

  • Level 2 Approaching

A near grid with imprecise angles.

Example A repeat drifting slightly at the edges.

  • Level 3 At Standard

A disciplined grid, a closing repeat, and sound symmetry.

Example A symmetric eight-point star whose pattern closes.

  • Level 4 Above Standard

A precise, cleanly executed grid honouring the ornament's logic.

Example A precise interlace closing tightly.

  • Level 5 Excellence

A masterful grid adding to the pattern without breaking its geometry — a dialogue with heritage.

Example A new ornamental composition honouring the original geometry.
