Post-Processing Restraint

Using editing to serve the image without excess that ruins its authenticity

The five levels

Each anchor describes what separates one level from the next — not a general description of quality. This is the text the evaluator itself reads.

  • Level 1 Below Standard

Excessive processing ruining the image's naturalness

Example Oversaturated colors and excessive sharpening that tire the eye

  • Level 2 Approaching

Uneven processing, some apt and some excessive

Example Good exposure adjustment with excess color saturation

  • Level 3 At Standard

Measured processing improving the image without being noticed

Example Subtle edits making the image look natural

  • Level 4 Above Standard

Intentional processing building a consistent visual style

Example A unified treatment giving your work a clear signature

  • Level 5 Exemplary

Invisible processing serving the vision with complete mastery

Example The processing goes unnoticed but its absence would be felt instantly
