Emotional Authenticity
Reader's sense that writer writes from real experience or feeling
The five levels
Each anchor describes what separates one level from the next — not a general description of quality. This is the text the evaluator itself reads.
-
Level 1 Below Standard
Manufactured emotion that seems distant and unconvincing
Example Writer manufactures sadness they haven't felt, appearing false
-
Level 2 Approaching
Attempts to evoke emotion without sufficient depth
Example Emotional language present but no roots beneath
-
Level 3 At Standard
Acceptable emotion but predictable, doesn't surprise
Example Reader feels something but predicts what's coming
-
Level 4 Above Standard
Authentic emotion that touches and moves the reader
Example Reader feels something real and remembers the text
-
Level 5 Exemplary
Emotion moves reader deeply, they feel the writer bled
Example Reader puts down the book and thinks about their own life
