Dramatic Escalation

Building a gradient of vocal energy that leads the listener toward the climax

The five levels

Each anchor describes what separates one level from the next — not a general description of quality. This is the text the evaluator itself reads.

  • Level 1 Below Standard

Constant energy with no escalation, losing attention

Example The climax delivered with the same energy as the opening

  • Level 2 Approaching

Escalation present but abrupt or not gradual

Example A sudden jump in energy with no buildup

  • Level 3 At Standard

A gradual escalation leading to a clear climax

Example Energy rises steadily up to the decisive moment

  • Level 4 Above Standard

Multi-wave escalation gripping the listener throughout

Example Waves of rise and fall building a grand final climax

  • Level 5 Exemplary

Escalation making the climax feel inevitable, not contrived

Example The listener feels the climax had to arrive exactly so
