Volume Dynamics

Intentional variation in vocal power between whisper and projection to serve meaning

The five levels

Each anchor describes what separates one level from the next — not a general description of quality. This is the text the evaluator itself reads.

  • Level 1 Below Standard

    One volume throughout the performance

Example Everything at the same power so emphasis vanishes

  • Level 2 Approaching

Limited volume variation not tied to meaning

Example Random rise and fall not serving the text

  • Level 3 At Standard

Varied volume reflecting content and breaking monotony

Example Strong lines louder and intimate ones softer, with logic

  • Level 4 Above Standard

Intentional volume building an impact that grips the listener

Example A whisper at the climax draws all attention

  • Level 5 Exemplary

Professional control making the softest voice the most impactful

Example The performance is remembered for its whisper, not its shout
