Color-System Logic

Building a colour system with clear roles (primary/accent/neutral) that scales, not a random gathering of colours.

The five levels

Each anchor describes what separates one level from the next — not a general description of quality. This is the text the evaluator itself reads.

  • Level 1 Below Standard

Unrelated colours that clash and distract.

Example Five saturated colours fighting for attention.

  • Level 2 Approaching

An emerging colour relation but without clear roles.

Example Two harmonious colours and an intruding third.

  • Level 3 At Standard

A 3–5 colour system with a clear relation and readable roles.

Example Primary + accent + two neutrals in analogous harmony.

  • Level 4 Above Standard

A system with roles and tints/shades that scales across interfaces.

Example Primary tints serving states and surfaces.

  • Level 5 Excellence

A complete colour system carrying identity and holding across every medium and state.

Example A palette working in light, dark, and print alike.
